The Company:

Joist is a fast-growing marketplace for home improvement contractors and homeowners. It provides trades experts with out-of-this-world software tools and best practices, including a free estimating and invoicing app ranked among the top 25 business apps on the Apple App Store. It also acts as a home improvement concierge for homeowners – a one-stop shop for all home improvement needs. Joist helps homeowners choose trusted, high-quality contractors from its network and guides them through the entire experience. The company is on track to facilitate $10B in transactions between 350k contractors and 2.7M homeowners this year, with GMV growing by double digits each month.

The Role
At Joist, the Sales Development team plays a crucial role in growing our business and delivering a high touch experience to our homeowner customers. Joist is looking for a seasoned Sales Development Manager to cultivate a fast-paced, highly-trained, high performance team of Sales Development Representatives that are responsible for starting sales conversations with our prospective customers. This team is often our customer’s first human touchpoint, and sets their entire experience up for success.

As a highly efficient Sales Development Team Leader your main focus will be to review, contact, and qualify marketing-generated homeowner leads and smoothly deliver them to Sales Account Executives.

*Joist is looking for a Director/Manager (title will be based on candidate experience).


  • Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and coach a small internal team of SDRs (focused on testing/learning)
  • Train, manage, and motivate, a 3rd party SDR partner
  • Manage Sales Development organization to goals, objectives and quota achievement
  • Develop, document, and maintain the SDR playbook and strategy
  • Manage team of 10 SDRs and help scale the team to over 25 SDRs in the next 12 months.
  • Work closely with marketing and sales ops to ensure systems are in place to enable SDRs to be successful
  • Lead homeowner sourcing initiatives through outbound activities
  • Report to the VP, Sales

  • Are driven to speak directly with customers, and lead by example. This is a must.
  • Actively seek and use input from others, respect others’ time and talents and put team goals above personal goals
  • Continually set challenging goals, actively seek feedback for self-improvement, learn from experience and show high levels of motivation

You have:

  • 5+ years of experience managing a sales development team in a high-growth company, preferably a start-up, and consumer-facing product (B2C)
  • 8+ years of sales experience, including sales development and/or closing, preferably in a consumer focused environment (B2C)
  • Proven experience in leading a high-performing SDR team
  • Strong leadership experience, with a focus on training, coaching and motivation
  • Expert knowledge of the full sales cycle, from prospecting, cold calling through to negotiation and closing
  • Ability to provide situational coaching and advice and help close deals
  • Experience working with (a plus)
  • Ability to influence through persuasion, negotiation, and consensus building
  • A clear communicator and collaborator
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and with multiple departments including sales, marketplace operations, and growth marketing
  • Results orientated, metrics driven track record
  • Deep understanding of outbound pipeline creation processes
  • Demonstrated desire for continuous learning and improvement
  • Enthusiastic and creative leader with the ability to inspire others
  • Natural leader and the gift of inspiring others

*A background in e-commerce, enterprise agency, online marketplaces, and/or home improvement industry will be considered a major asset!
